Jen Ray is a life-long learner, dedicated to translating artistic passion into purposeful action. Since launching her company Dancinema Productions Ltd. in Vancouver, BC in 2014, it has quickly evolved into an international and bi-coastal organization, offering not only dancefilm production, but workshops, screenings, the “Dance & Cinema Festival” series, and more.
“Miss Jen” has nearly a decade of experience working with young people as a dance instructor, choreographer, and more recently through Dancinema workshops, community events, and The JaM Youth Project. Ray completed her B.A. in Film Studies at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, focusing much of her research on Dance in Cinema. She understands the responsibility and privilege of being an educator and is generous in her creativity, depth, and truth with everyone she works with.
Her genuine concern for the future, respect for the past, and vision for an integrated arts education inspired “Discover Dancinema Workshops” – sessions that explore the symbiotic relationship of Dance & Cinema using a scientific approach that cultivates media literacy, critical thinking, creative skills, and more. She is dedicated to cultivating well-rounded, critical-minded, and multi-talented individuals through the classes and events she offers.
Jen Ray believes in celebrating the present, honoring the past, and working for an even brighter future where the prevailing trend is to use Dance and media’s capacities to communicate the complexities of the soul and mind, in addition to celebrating the human body in all forms with dignity and due reverence.
Happily married to tap dancer and choreographer Mark Orsborn (The JaM Project), Ray has immigrated to the States and is excited to continue connecting and contributing. Personally and professionally, Jen Ray’s values and mission resonate with YPAD’s, and she is excited to be working together for positive change.
