Steven Jones, 35, of Bacliff is charged with attempted sexual performance by a child after posing as Maddie Zielger of “Dance Moms” on Facebook and asking underage girls for naked pictures of them.
A Bacliff man is wanted by authorities after being accused of posing as a young star from the reality hit “Dance Moms” and attempting to get nude photos from underage girls.
Steven Jones, 35, has been charged with attempted sexual performance by a child, and there is a warrant for his arrest.
Adam Poole, chief of the crimes against children division with the Galveston County District Attorney’s Office, said there were six different Facebook accounts using Maddie Ziegler’s name and photos. Poole said Jones used the accounts to communicate with 12 girls ages 10 to 14.
Ziegler is a 13-year-old dancer and actress who got her big break on Lifetime’s “Dance Moms,” which follows the training of young performers and their instructor Abby Lee Miller’s conflicts with their parents.
“There were numerous cyber tips that went out to authorities from Facebook and parents who noticed,” Poole said. “He’s specifically charged for asking one girl, 11, for a nude photo. She did not send it to him.”
Poole said Jones used the accounts since at least May and was initially arrested at his mother’s mobile home.
Poole said he heard Jones had a medical issue during his arrest on Tuesday and had to be taken to the hospital. He was not booked into jail, KTRK reports.
Poole did not know the specifics of the medical issue. As of Wednesday evening, Poole said, Jones’ known location was at his mother’s home in Bacliff.
He’s expected to be re-arrested soon.
