Angela Chambers, an Oakland Native, raised in Berkeley, spent most of her young life exploring the world of Musical Theater. Introduced to formal training in Modern, Contemporary, Jazz, and Ballet upon moving to Santa Cruz to attend UCSC for her Intensive Psychology BA and minor in Dance, Angela has had the privilege to develop and expand her knowledge of and relationship with movement as an art form and as a tool for social change . Angela continues to pursue her passion by teaching, collaborating, and performing within the Santa Cruz dance and extended arts community and has had the pleasure to work with choreographers such as Tandy Beal, Micha Scott, and Cid Pearlman. Through these endeavors, Angela has taken part in many local showcases including Motion Pacific’s The Incubator Project, The MAH’s annual Red Ball Gala, Economies of Effort 3, and TWDCC’s Winter Showcase alongside Dawson Dance. Angela is also a founding member of Shift The Grid, a dance collective that received the Incubator Project Grant in 2015 for their production Vacancy. This year, Angela was also awarded the Santa Cruz Arts Council Professional Development grant to further develop and implement a youth/teen Self Care and Mindfulness program in local studios including and starting within the Tannery World Arts and Cultural Center.
