Background Checks for Dance Professionals: The Why and How
Hosted by: Joseph Zanovitch- YPAD Director and Special Guest, Matt Garbincus from Intellicorp Records
Raising the standard of integrity for dance professionals to keep youth safe in dance requires several steps and ONE of them is background checks. It is important when we allow people to have access and influence over children and teens we are aware what is on their record. If someone has a clean background check and is then found to exploit their position, as business owners and leaders we can at least comfort our clients and greater dance community we did our due diligence by conducting background checks to keep their children out of harms way. Matt from our background check partner, Intellicorp, will discuss what it takes to start doing background checks and be available to answer any questions you may have.
We will cover topics such as:
The process of doing a background check
What you need to know before doing checks on your staff
Running checks on staff you may have trained since they were young.

Together we can create a zero tolerance for bullying in dance and still help youth who are acting out through bullying others. An open Q&A will be held at the end of the webinar.

Hosted by: Leslie Scott- YPAD Founder and Special Guest, Lisa Phelps-Conflict Management Specialist and YPAD Advisory Panel Member
We will provide an introduction to identifying unhealthy and unsafe dance environments and provide language, tools and methods to intervene, discourage, dismantle and prevent these situations. At times what we feel on a visceral level is not easily described in words. Being an agent for positive change can be difficult. Knowing when to speak up and how to speak up is an empowering skill. As a community we can unite and communicate our concerns free of shame and blame without compromising the message. An open Q&A will be held at the end of the webinar.
Dance Trends: The Potential Harms of Tricks and Hypermobility for Youth in Dance
Hosted by: Leslie Scott-YPAD Founder and Special Guest, Kate Fox Collie- Injury Prevention Specialist and YPAD Advisory Panel Member
With the rise of hypermobility and tricks being awarded and glorified at dance competitions and on multiple media platforms, the potential for short and long term injuries and chronic pain for youth in dance becomes a reality. More and more young dancers are turning to unhealthy and sometimes dangerous social media videos that offer promises of quick and easy flexibility and learning dance “tricks” with little to no safety guidelines. This webinar will discuss protocols that can help protect and prevent injury and also identify what movement is possibly damaging young dancers and why. We will also offer resources with evidence based research regarding the impact of these trends. There will be a Q&A at the end of the webinar.
